COURSE DESCRIPTION: Biology I

Biology is the study of living things and their relationships with other living things and with the physical environment. Included is the study of life processes such as growth, reproduction, and metabolism, and the flow of energy through living systems. Genetics, evolution of life forms, classification of living things, the structure and function of molecules, cells, tissues, organs and systems that make up living organisms are also studied. Attention is given to the human species and its relationship to other life. Science attitudes, thinking processes and skills, and applications of science and technology to social problems and personal decision making are emphasized. Biology I qualifies as a laboratory science course in meeting the University of California “d” or “f” admission requirement.
